They're HERE!!

Okay, so just to give you an idea of what an exciting day it is around here when the new catalogues arrive, Mom actually took a picture of the mail truck in our driveway delivering the boxes... then she emailed it to me at work so that I would know that they were here!

Not here yet...

I know some of you are probably checking in for an update on the new catalogues... they didn't arrive today so let's all keep our fingers crossed for tomorrow! I'll be rushing home right after work to check and if they are... if they do arrive, I'll be doing deliveries to those who pre-ordered on Friday night and Saturday.

So, we are truly getting close to the end of the current Idea Book & Catalogue and the current Spring Mini Catalogue. I just thought I would pull out a few of my old favourites made with retiring stamp sets and accessories. I hope you enjoy this last look...

The first one was stamped by my good friend, Jodi, using the Flower Filled stamp set (pg 130) along with Brighter Tomorrow (pg 180) and Crosshatch (pg 168) in the background. This is a great card to cheer a friend!

Here's one that I made a few years ago right after I learned how to do the Polished Stone technique. The Kanji set (pg 151) is perfect for this card which is very elegant.

This one was one that we stamped last year at the July Open House. It's made with the On Gossamer Wings set (pg 132). I love the colours on this card - Elegant Eggplant, More Mustard and Always Artichoke.

Of course, I have to include one with Spring Garden (pg 124)... this is my favourite quote: "Live well, laugh often, love much" so I was instantly drawn to this set. This card is made with only this one stamp set which I love!

And, here's one last one for tonight... I made this one quite a few years ago using the Tags & More set (pg 62). The flowers down the side are embossed. A simple, but fun card.

Well, I better stop here... I need to go get the door prizes ready for my Open House on July 7th. I hope you are planning to come! It will be lots of stampin' fun!!

Guess what I'm doing...!!

Yes, it's the most exciting day of the year! The new Stampin' Up! Fall-Winter Collection 2007 arrived in my mailbox today!!!!! I've been flipping through it, admiring all the new goodies! My wish list is nice and long already... shhhh, don't tell my hubby!

Okay, before I go any further, I should tell you that the copy in my hands is the only copy I have... There are more coming - this is just my demonstrator copy. I have boxes of them that I hope will arrive this week and if they do, I'll be getting in touch with everyone who pre-ordered to arrange delivery - this weekend if you are home! You can still pre-order at the special price of only $8 including taxes - contact me by June 30th.

Well, do you want to know about a few of my favourites? I think my most favourite stamp set is one called "Bundled in Love" - it's made to coordinate with Bundle of Joy (from the Spring Mini Catalogue and also available in this new catalogue). You all know how much I love the Bundle of Joy giraffe and teddy bear - now I can add the sweetest little bunny, chick and hippopotamus (did you hear that, Rhonda - a hippo!). There's a new greeting set called Short & Sweet that's the same style as Warm Words - the new one has "thank you", "wish big", "welcome baby", "very merry", "best wishes" and "love you" along with 6 little image stamps. Oh, there are so many other stamp sets, but I better stop there...

Lots of exciting accessories too. The new ribbons are beautiful! A wider grosgrain, new taffeta ribbon, and double-stitched ribbon in the six new In Colour colours. I'm thrilled with the new Stack & Store Caddy - it's like the Colour Caddy but made to store all the little brad, button and eyelet containers. It will really help to clean up my stamping table and keep the things I need close at hand. There is lots more, but you'll just have to see it yourself - I couldn't possibly describe it all!

I have one other bit of excitement to share with you before I post some cards... Yesterday was my 5 year anniversary! Five years ago, I started as a Stampin' Up! demonstrator. I had never stamped before but went to a Stampin' Up! demonstration, fell in love and jumped in with both feet! I started my "business" just as a way to sneak a whole bunch of stuff into the house without my husband grumbling too much because it would all be for my "business"... Well, little did I know that 5 years later, it would truly be a business and one that I've loved every moment of! Thanks for all of your support and enthusiasm along the way - it's been a great 5 years and I look forward to what is still to come. This photo is of me (obviously) last night... I was teaching a stamping class and at the end, my wonderful hostess appeared from the kitchen with this cake that said "Congratulations on 5 years". It turns out that my Mom had dropped the cake off earlier in the day so that I could have this surprise! I have the best Mom!!

Okay, I better share a couple of cards with you here... This one is a bit faded from the scanning, so it looks much brighter in real life. It's made with the retiring sets Kanji (pg 151) and Petal Prints (pg 118). This card was created by Sonia and she shared it with us at a demonstrator meeting. I loved the card and we made it at a Stamp-A-Stack a month or so ago.

This card is my own design and I love it! It's made with the Ladybuds set (pg 148) which is also retiring, along with the Itty Bitty Backgrounds and Sincere Salutations. I used the Ticket Corner Punch to create a nice corner perfect for the brads... This is a nice bright card that we made last night at our stamping class.

Well, I have some orders to sort through tonight to get ready to deliver...

Here's a new idea!

This is a really nice card that I received in a swap from Angela Giroux. I had it sitting on my desk and noticed a neat detail - look at how she used the Oval Punch on the side to anchor the ribbon. You can click on the picture to enlarge it and get a better look. She fastened an eyelet into the Oval Punch piece and then threaded her Organdy Ribbon through it. Also have a look at the background - she stamped Print Pattern first in Brocade Blue and then stamped Weathered on top in gold. It's a nice effect.

Well, this post will be short and sweet tonight... I've just finished getting ready for a class tomorrow night and have to make a sympathy card before I can call it a night.

Going, going, almost gone!

Happy sunny (so far...) Sunday! It's been a weekend of stamping fun here. I thought I would post a couple of the cards that we made at this weekend's Stamp-A-Stack that use retiring products. If you haven't had a peak at the current list of retiring accessories yet, it would be a good idea to look now as things are flying off the shelves at Stampin' Up! Lots of the items are already sold out or are becoming endangered! If the item is red, it's no longer available... however, I do have a few items on hand so if there's something you do want, please email me (bevennis@shaw.ca) to see if I might have it.

The first card is made with the retiring set Petal Prints (pg 118). This has grown to be my favourite set this year... It can be used in so many ways and is the perfect set to reach for when you need a quick card. This card does take a little more time because of the cutting, but the end result is fantastic! The greeting set, Curvy Verses, is not retiring so we will see it along with lots of great new greeting sets in the Fall-Winter Collection 2007 which will be arriving very soon!

This card is made with Nice & Narrow (pg 64), another set that will be gone at the end of this month along with the Little Hellos (pg 67) that were used for the greeting. This card has lots of little details created with punches - the Oval Punches at the bottom, the Ticket Corner Punch and the 1/4" Circle Punch... The background was stamped with one of the flowers from Little Pieces. And, the Celery Organdy Ribbon adds the finishing touch to this card. All of the Organdy Ribbon is being retired and it is one of the items that is selling out quickly. If you haven't already stocked up on this, now is the time! Although I know we have lots and lots of exciting new ribbons coming in July, I am truly going to miss the Organdy Ribbon.

This next card is my own design! Although I'm never shy to sneak ideas from other creative stampers, I'm always very proud when I am able to create my own card. This one was not pre-planned other than having decided that I wanted to use some of the ribbon from the retiring Seaside Ribbon Originals package and I wanted a card made with the Favourite Teddy Bear (pg 70). The ribbon helped me decide on the colours to use for the card and I pulled out scraps of card stock which is what helped me figure out the layout... I stamped and coloured the bear and then just started laying out the pieces of card stock that I had until I settled on this. It was looking a bit flat still to I roughed up two of the edges of the Sage Shadow card stock and put the gift on with a Dimensional. It's a fun card!

And, this card was inspired by a layout I had seen previously. Sometimes, it's difficult to use smaller stamps on the front of a card, like the cute little images in the retiring Baby Firsts (pg 97) stamp set. I've always found these babies to be so adorable... Since I already had the Seaside Ribbon Originals out on my stamping table, I thought I would create a card to use the beautiful Bashful Blue Stitched Grosgrain that comes in this package. I liked how Certainly Celery looked with the Bashful Blue. I added the Flannel Background stamp to the main card for a nice soft look and then stamped a little greeting - "happy new baby" from the retiring Tiny Talk set (pg 190). The baby image is on Dimensionals to lift it off the card a bit. This is a quick and easy card and oh so cute!

Frolicking Frogs

Here's another set that will be leaving us at the end of June... Frolicking Frogs (pg 90) is a fun set. Both of these cards were designed by Stacey - one she brought to a demonstrator meeting as a make and take and the other she made for a swap.

These stamps require some colouring but to simplify this, Stacey has used the Stampin' Write Markers. On the first card, she also added some Crystal Effects to the water, the flower, the dragonfly and the frog's eyes. It's a bit hard to see in the scan, but this added detail really catches your eye.

So, the countdown is really on to the new 2007 Fall-Winter Collection. This new catalogue is generating a lot of interest! Be sure that you've pre-ordered your copy from me at the special price of only $8 (including taxes) before June 30th. Farewell Fishy Friends...

Here's another of my favourites that we are saying farewell too at the end of the month. I thought I would just post some of cards we've made with the Fishy Friends stamp set (pg 140). This is such a fun stamp set and is great for all ages! It's also great for scrapbooking pictures from the beach.

Back at last...!!

Hi stampin' friends! Did you miss me these last few days? I've just been really busy!! Friday night, I was at the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Our team, Rose's Buds, raised over $3500! Yay team! Thanks to everyone who made a donation on behalf of our team. It was a long and cold night - I walked for 3 hours in total, first from 8:30-9:30 pm and then from 2:30-4:30 am. We had fun and it was for a good cause.

Okay, on to stamping... I know that many of you have seen these cards but they're all great cards and are all made with stamp sets that are retiring. The first one is made with the And Everything Nice stamp set (page 88). I haven't had a chance to use this set too much - lots of colouring involved in this one! It's an adorable set though and this card is perfect for our climate on the wet (oops, West) coast. Notice the Wax Paper Resist technique in the background.

This card was one that we did at a Stamp-A-Stack a while back. It uses the Celebrate in Style (pg 160) stamp set along with the Weathered background stamp. This card is so fun! We've also used the Spring Showers Designer Series Double-Sided Paper on this one.

This card, stamped with the All Wrapped Up set (pg 103), has been popular. I received this in a swap a while back. It's so cute because the plastic bag has actually been cut out and some Saran Wrap has been wrapped around and tied with Linen Thread at the top. Absolutely adorable!


And, this last one is from our most recent Stamp-A-Stack. I bought this stamp set just to have the airplane stamp (yes, I'm a collector of airplane everything... you should see my office!). The stamp set is called By Air (pg 101) and it's a fun set to use for little boy cards. The "Happy Birthday" greeting comes from the Simple Sayings II (pg 184) set - we coloured it with a Stampin' Write Marker to ink only the words we wanted to stamp.

Speaking of Stamp-A-Stacks, there's another coming up this weekend and although Friday night is full, there is lots of room Saturday morning! I'm going to be using lots of stamp sets that are retiring so this is your chance to get some last ideas and inspiration for some of these sets. Lexicon of Love - retiring soon!

This simple card made with the Lexicon of Love and Print Pattern stamps has always been a favourite of mine. It's a great card for either a man or a woman. You could so easily change the colours and have a completely different look. This one is made with Creamy Caramel, Basic Black and Very Vanilla.

I remember designing this next card for a Stamp-A-Stack a couple of years ago when the Hodgepodge Hardware kits had just been introduced. I was so excited about how this piece of hardware framed the word "friend" so perfectly. This card uses Sage Shadow and Handsome Hunter card stock. The background piece is Sage Shadow stamped first with the Canvas background stamp in Handsome Hunter and then I did the direct to paper technique to add texture. It's a pretty simple card which could also be done in different colours.

Mom stamped this card after seeing a similar sample. This one is a little more involved with the strip down the side being stamped repetitively and then embossed. Pretty and Pink with Chocolate Chip - what a great combination!

Lexicon of Love (page 162) is retiring at the end of the month. Along with the "celebrate", "thanks" and "friend" stamps, this set has a fourth stamp with the word "cherish" defined.

I'll be back in a couple of days after I'm rested up from the Relay for Life this weekend... Keep your fingers crossed that the rain stays away this weekend! : )

Winged Things

Here's another stamp set that is retiring... I've really enjoyed making cards with Winged Things (pg 139) and will miss using it in my stamping classes. I love the dragonfly in this set.

This first card is one that I designed a few weeks ago. It uses a technique - I have no idea if the technique has a name though... You stamp the dragonfly on vellum card stock with StazOn ink. Give it a minute or two to dry and then lay it upside down on a mouse/foam pad. Use a Stylus (or Empressor) to "colour" the dragonfly. Your vellum card stock will turn white wherever you draw with the Stylus and it will "pop" the image up a bit. Then I used the Lovely Lilac Stampin' Write Marker to outline the dragonfly before I mounted it onto a piece of Lovely Lilac card stock (cut the same size at the vellum card stock).

This is a card that I designed for a class last year... the hostess loved the butterfly in this set so requested a card using it. It was spring so the nice bright colours - Gable Green, Tempting Turquoise and Brilliant Blue - seemed perfect. This card also uses the Wonderful Words II set which is also retiring.



Mom stamped this one - lots of masking and sponging here! It's sure eyecatching though and is a card that gets lots of compliments.




And, this one is my favourite... Perfect Plum, Pale Plum and Mellow Moss are a great combination for this card. The Hodgepodge Hardware piece is a nice addition to the card and it frames the greeting from Warm Words perfectly.

From the Spring Mini...

Here's a nice bright, colourful card... The stamp set is called That's Nice. I like how the word "FRIEND" was coloured with Stampin' Write Markers to add some colour to the stamp. Also, notice how the Spiral Punch was used across the top of this piece. The patterned paper at the bottom is from the Petals & Paisley Designer Series Double-Sided Paper. And the top piece of card stock has been wheeled with the Petals jumbo wheel. A fun card designed by Jackie Kurtz that I received on cruise.

A new place to stamp...

As many of you know, I'm going to be walking in the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life next weekend. I'm walking with my friend Sonia's team in honour of her Mom, Rose. It's a surprise for Rose who is a cancer survivor... I'm looking forward to being able to join Sonia's family and friends in this and to remember all those in my life who have been affected by this terrible disease at the same time. By the way, before I show you the new stamping project that we did for this, I'll put in a shameless plug for donations since I'm still a little shy of my goal... If you'd like to donate to our team - Rose's Buds - you can go online (click here) and make a donation... Every dollar counts and goes towards a great cause: the Canadian Cancer Society. Donations are always accepted of course, but only those made up until Tuesday of this week will count towards our team's total. Thanks to everyone who has already donated - don't be alarmed if you go online and don't see your donation counted as all of the donations I've collected in person are being delivered to the Cancer Society on Tuesday.

Okay, on to stamping... All of our team members receive a t-shirt for the relay. Sonia and I decided that it would be fun to stamp on our t-shirts to identify all of our team members. So, we used Iron-On Transfers (from London Drugs, made by Avery). First, we printed our team name then we stamped the roses using the Roses in Winter stamp set and Craft Ink. After the ink dried overnight, we ironed these onto the sleeves of everyone's shirts. Very cool! The ink colours did change a little, I'm guessing because of the ironing process, but they still look great! We used Pretty in Pink, Regal Rose and Rose Red for the rose and Mellow Moss and Always Artichoke for the leaves. So, now you can stamp on your clothes or any other fabric surface easily with great results!

And, one card to share tonight... Mom made this one, inspired by a card she saw online recently. It's for a stamping class I'm teaching on Tuesday night this week with a great group of ladies. They wanted a card that could be used as a Father's Day card, but would also be suitable for other occasions if someone wanted to use it for something else. We decided that the Balmy Breezes stamp set, which is being retired at the end of this month, would be perfect for this. This sample is combined with the French Script background stamp, which is also retiring, and the Everyday Flexible Phrases. Of course, if this was to be a Father's Day card, we would just eliminate the little tag on the front and add the Happy Father's Day greeting from All-Year Cheer II to the inside. The colours on this card are Bordering Blue, So Saffron, Sage Shadow and Handsome Hunter. The tree is stamped on Naturals Ivory using Basic Brown ink with a soft touch of colour added using the Stampin' Pastels. The Natural Hemp to tie on the little tag along with the three brads add some nice touches to this card.

Red Hatters?

I don't really want it to snow, but I did want to share this fun card with you tonight! Mom made this one - she was inspired by a card she saw online. Isn't this a creative combination of the Frosty snowman and a hat from the Going Out in Style stamp set? If you know any Red Hatters, this would be a great Christmas card! I think the little purse is absolutely adorable! There's lots of glitter which suits this card... It's just a card that makes you smile!

The Going Out in Style set and the Tiny Talk set (the greeting comes from this set) are both retiring at the end of the month...

Well, it's late and I have some enthusiastic stampers here tomorrow morning for my new Punch Your Art Out I class... we'll be punching some great cards out!

The weekend is close...

Where has this week gone? I can't believe it's Friday tomorrow already! I'm really looking forward to the two new classes this weekend - Technique Junkies and Punch Your Art Out I. We've been busy creating for both classes and I'm pretty proud of the cards we've come up with this time! I'll share a couple of them here next week, but I'm keeping them all a surprise for the stampers who are coming...

Here's another swap card that I received on cruise. It's simple but certainly different. The letters, stamped from the Big Deal Alphabet set, are stamped with VersaMark and then embossed with Crystal Clear Emboss Powder. It's nice to see a different style of card. This would certainly work if you needed a masculine thank you card which can sometimes be a bit of a challenge.

Voila!

This is another swap card that I received - made by Cynthia Williams. This is a great idea for the Voila! stamp set. Notice how the cover on the tray is cut out and attached with a brad so it opens! Very cute!!

I'm busy designing cards for my first Technique Junkies on Friday night! We'll be having fun making different cards using the techniques that everyone learned during the Techniques Book classes. I better get back to work...

More for the boys...

Wow, I've done pretty well with the masculine cards this week... Here's a card that would be perfect for an athletic boy of any age! It uses the Sporting Goods set, which is retiring, along with the Well-Worn Alphabet set and the Everyday Flexible Phrases sets. The Rough Texture jumbo wheel has been rolled across the bottom. I like how the ribbon was used and the piece of Hodgepodge Hardware was added. This is such a great card!

I must keep this short and sweet tonight as I have lots to accomplish still tonight... Hope you're week is going well despite the rain and cold! It's great stamping weather!

An old favourite...

Well, I didn't manage time to stamp tonight but I did get a lot accomplished! I finished off my day by sorting through many of my card samples which had become quite disorganized. I pulled out many of the samples that are made with retiring sets so that I can be sure to show them around one more time this month during my stamping events. I came across this one which is an old favourite... It was one of my first cards when I started as a Stampin' Up! demonstrator nearly 5 years ago and I was extremely proud of it. I'm not sure why I didn't actually colour the little mouse in, but nonetheless, I think he's pretty cute!

This card is stamped with the Nice & Easy Notes set. This set has been great to have and I used it so much when I first started out with card making. I'm sad to say farewell to it actually...

My absolute favourite part about this card though is the cheese. I remember being so proud of this! It was just a piece of cardstock that I punched out then sponged. I like the edge which was done with a 1/4 inch punch all the way around.

The ribbon was quite an accomplishment too because this was before we had Navy Grosgrain. So, I used White Grosgrain and coloured it by laying it on the Night of Navy Classic Stampin' Pad and holding it down with a sponge dauber as I pulled it across the pad. I recall that I had to do this a couple of time to get it completely coloured and then let it dry for a bit before using it. This is still a great tip to keep in mind because you can have ribbon in all of our colours by doing this. Of course, I'd always rather use the ribbon already coloured as it's much easier, but it's good if you need a specific colour that you don't have.

Some more great swap cards!

Have you been wondering where I am? Well, just busy really. On Friday night, I went with my friend Sonia to the Western Community Relay for Life. She had volunteered to do some card making at the kids tent for a couple of hours. I was so glad that I went to help her - it was a very touching event. It was really fantastic to see the cancer survivors who were there do a victory lap around the track to start the relay. And, we had fun helping and watching kids of all ages make cards. I think the cutest thing about watching them was that so many of them coloured and assembled their cards then signed them, put them in the envelope and sealed it - all ready to go! One little kid's card was a thank you to someone for coming to the relay "to help our family" he wrote. Very touching. We'll be walking in the Victoria Relay for Life on June 15th.

Okay, so since it's been a couple of days since I posted, I thought I'd give you a few cards to look at. The first card was designed by Sonia and we made it as a make and take at our meeting last week. It uses the Summer by the Sea stamp set - one of my favourites! The flowers stamped in white across the bottom are from the Polka Dots & Petals stamp set. We stamped the little greeting on a piece of On Board Accents after we had coloured it with Rose Red Craft Ink. The greeting stamp is from the Circle of Friendship set.

Next is a fun card made by Lorraine McDonald using the Loads of Love and Loads of Love Accessories stamp sets. There's a lot of work that went into this card! What you can't see really well in the scan is that Lorraine cut our the truck and the two little presents that are falling off the back and attached them with Dimensionals. It really adds depth to the card. Also, look at how she created the road - I imagine she masked the section she wanted with Post It Notes and then used the direct to paper method, dragging the Sahara Sand ink pad over the card stock. Then she changed her masking and created some hills in Garden Green, probably using a sponge for this and then she added some Brocade Blue for the sky. The trees stamped in the background finish this scene off nicely!

This great card for a little boy is Alicia Pine's creation. The truck is from the set called By Land. The different colours on the truck are stamped on the coloured card stock and then cut out. The "Happy Birthday" stamp is from the Favourite Teddy Bear stamp set - this set is retiring... The nice bright printed paper is out of the Dots & Dashes package. And, notice that my favourite Ticket Corner Punch was used on this with silver brads added to the corners.

And, one more... This one was made by an American demonstrator, Stacie Mittelman, who swapped with me at Regionals. This is a great baby card! It uses the Bundle of Joy stamp set from the Spring Mini Catalogue. The layout of this card is fantastic and the amount of work she put into making these swap cards is so appreciated. The printed paper is from the Sarah Designer Series Paper. And, the little greeting "adorable" is from the Warm Words stamp set. This card brings a smile to my face every time I look at it!

I hope that you are having a great weekend and enjoying the sunshine! I had a chance to relax and enjoy the great weather when Mom and I went to China Town for a bit yesterday afternoon. We had a yummy lunch at the Noodle Box and then after wandering through the stores, we sat down for a bubble tea. It was so nice in the warm sun. Unfortunately, today I will enjoy the sun from inside as I have lots of paperwork to do but hope to reward myself with some stamping this evening!
